Let’s all celebrate Earth Day 2022, once again, with action at St. Francis Xavier.
We would like each class to once again participate in a city wide, litter pick up activity. Our school will participate/compete as classes and as individuals. The top three classes will have a chance at the following privileges:
#1 Chick-fil-a meal for the class.
#2 Pretzels, each student earns a free pretzel snack
#3 Dress down passes
What is required?
Safety while eliminating litter from our neighborhoods, parks and land is PARAMOUNT. We ask that student map out a safety plan, use gloves/litter pickers and appropriate footwear when picking up litter. Please work with your parents to ensure your personal safety.
The class with the most trash removed wins.
How will we judge the winners?
We must have before and after pictures in order to correctly judge the competition. Not all litter removal is equal, for example, 500 cigarette butts would barely fill a large trash bag but a single tire might fill an entire bag-both are important items to remove from our environment. In other words, the size of the bag matters only so much which is why we need to before and after pics.
You must submit pictures but consider submitting a few sentences about why you chose the area you decided to clean up and what it might mean for the environment-this will help the committee determine the winners. There will be a few extra individual prizes for unique pick ups and odd items found, just like last year. Have fun and do you very best to honor this beautiful planet for a day (or two).
Individual Rewards for top students: Students will still have a chance to win prizes, even if their class does not. The top 3 students will receive Chick fil and a dress down pass.
$50 cash prize: Complete the trash pick up with documentation, write an essay on an environmental documentary or book you watched or read recently, and finally make a unique suggestion on how we improve our school in an earth friendly way. Be creative and inventive. One winner to be chosen by the committee
